Hammond Transport To Take Part In Five Mile Walk In Aid Of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and as we approach the end of the month, the team at Hammond Transport is reflecting on this important subject, whilst celebrating the company’s fundraising achievements through their five mile walk.

On Saturday 24th September, Hammond Transport’s team along with their friends and family, will be gathering at Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Southend-on-Sea before embarking on the five and a half mile route along the coast to their final destination at the Crooked Billet Pub in Old Leigh. The walk is in aid of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a subject which is close to the heart of many within Hammond Transport.

Although it is rarer than adult cancer, childhood cancer still affects over 1,600 children under the age of 15 every year – around half of these cases are found in children under the age of four. Whilst 2,110 teenagers and 15-24 years olds are diagnosed with cancer every year.

Childhood cancer comes in many forms, including brain tumours and leukaemia, and cure rates for children are often much higher than adults. Yet, not a lot is known about the causes of childhood cancer, and as a result more research into the subject is required. The treatment process can be incredibly gruelling for the children and their families, and it can be a very upsetting time for all involved.

Charities which support children and their families, and fund research into the subject rely on donations and support from others in order to provide the vital services required, which is why fundraising such as this is so vital.

For those going through cancer the average distance they have to travel for treatment is five miles, which is why Hammond Transport has pledged to walk the same distance. Hammond Transport is hoping to raise £2,000 for this extremely worthy cause.

Anyone is welcome to take part. If you are interested, please email info@hammondtransport.com to confirm your place.
